‘Lani Kai’ literally translates to ‘Heavenly Ocean’. And just like its name, the beach truly resembles a slice of paradise on earth. Just the thought of going to Lanikai Beach always excites me. It isn’t just the most gorgeous of all the beaches in Oahu but also ranked one of the best in the world. The tranquil blue waters, fine white sand, beautiful palm trees, awe-inspiring sunrises, breathtaking sunsets, and mesmerizing skies – all make for ethereal backgrounds for photography. So, when it was time for me to create some wonderful images of my client Ryan Plank with his family at this dreamy location, my happiness knew no bounds. This family of five was visiting from Southern California and was super sweet and friendly. I had fun in their company and enjoyed creating all those stunning family portraits.

Lanikai Beach Family Photography

The Plank family wanted both – the beach and greenery – in their images, so that’s what I focused on during our shoot. We did a sunrise session at Lanikai Beach and then shot at the Royal Hawaiian Golf Course located in Kailua to get all those verdant backgrounds. They love candids and wanted a mix of candids and posed shots. And that’s exactly what they got! My models were so photogenic and natural in front of the camera, which made my work such a breeze and so much more fun.

The family dressed up in beautiful colors that blended perfectly with the surroundings and gave the images a cohesive look. They also had an outfit change that was as perfect as their previous looks. Be it their choice of venues, their attire, their poses, or their enthusiasm throughout, I loved the efforts the Plank family put into this session to make it count. 

Another thing that truly warmed my heart was how they interacted with each other. They were so happy and enjoyed the time they spent together as a family. They had fun holding hands, walking together, or simply sitting with each other as a group. Their smiles and high spirits added a charm to the photos. Their genuine expressions and reactions just helped me bring out their beautiful bond in the best way possible through the photos. Besides taking group pictures of the five of them at both locations, I also created images of the couple and siblings separately. I also loved the images where the girls got clicked with their dad and then, with their mom highlighting the beauty of their relationship with each parent. The photos turned out to look so gorgeous! For me, as a photographer, it was a beautiful and refreshing workday spent with wonderful people at stellar locations!
