Kristina Thai Family Portraits at Waimanalo Beach

 

A deep blue sea, miles of unbroken shoreline, powdery white sand, and T-Rex for company on a tropical island! That was quite a combination for me. I witnessed all this and more when the Kristina Thai family chose me to photograph their family portraits at the Waimanalo Beach on the island of Oahu. Documenting families as they bond with each other and helping my clients create beautiful memories they can cherish forever are two of my favorite reasons for doing family portrait sessions. And, when I had not one, not two, but three couples to take photos of during a single session, I was super thrilled. From two little munchkins adding so much sweetness to the pictures to the most creative T-Rex outfit pregnancy announcement, I had plenty to capture on my camera. And it felt like one lovely beach party! The gorgeous beach, the coconut trees swaying in the breeze, and the sky with cottony clouds blended so beautifully and made for some amazing backdrops for my images – helping me create some adorable family portraits.

With the COVID-19 pandemic taking a toll on our social lives and curbing our community gatherings for so long, most people have been craving human interactions. And this spirit of coming together after months of isolation is what the Kristina Thai family celebrated when they decided to do a family photo session after staying apart from each other and not seeing their loved ones during the pandemic-triggered lockdowns.

Everyone seemed so chilled out and happy in each other’s company. They surely made the most of this lovely day as I captured their moments of togetherness that they could treasure for years to come. Not only was this family in high spirits, but they also put the look together for the entire photo session with so much effort. Their well-coordinated attire blended beautifully with the breezy beach vibes. The little girls and their mommy wore matching outfits, which added a unique touch to the photos. I not only enjoyed photographing the little ones but also got some romantic images of their parents by the beach later. 

 

After we created some amazing family photos of the fun bunch against the stunning turquoise waters and Koolau mountains in the background, one of my couples wore T-Rex dino costumes, which added to the fun element of the images. That was just super cute! I jumped at the opportunity of capturing some Jurassic Park moments for these lovely people who are fans of the movie. They even had a baby dinosaur stuffed toy to announce that their little one was going to arrive soon. This was one of the most creative pregnancy announcements I’ve photographed! I was also told that my couple had put on dinosaur costumes for their wedding as well. So, it made so much sense to welcome their baby in their own quirky style. It was so amusing to look at those life-size dinos walking hand in hand and taking a stroll on the beach. Guys, you would make Steven Spielberg so happy! And even I was glad to see how adorable the photos turned out. My couple was enjoying each moment, and when they popped from behind and chased my other couple who had their girls in their arms, the images I got were just hilarious. The little angels were so amused, and so was I!

 

From the beginning of this session to the very last minute, I never had a single dull moment with this lovely family. I loved how they were up for anything and so supportive of each other. The striking location and my amazingly warm and friendly models made this photo shoot a breezy affair!
