Donna & Jon’s Wedding At Honuala’i The Sullivan Estate

From gorgeous details to following The Great Gatsby theme and literally having a legit painter at their wedding, Donna and Jon outdid themselves on planning their special day! And be it a traditional hula dance session from the bride or toasting in style, this couple sure knew how to have FUN at their wedding and own it like a BOSS! I am so very thankful that I got to capture these moments from their wedding at the beautiful Honuala’i The Sullivan Estate, HI. If you are a sucker for details and dreamy weddings, you can draw some inspiration from Donna and Jon’s outdoor wedding. 

 

Donna & Jon’s Wedding

Donna and Jon had a beautiful outdoor wedding at Honuala’i The Sullivan Estate, Big Island, HI. Situated at the beachfront, every detail about this amazing venue reflected tranquility and calm. Moreover, the site offered stunning vistas of the beachside, which seemed to be taken straight out of painting – that surely was a bonus for me to frame some gorgeous couple’s portraits! It was a bright sunny morning, the day of Donna and Jon’s wedding. As usual, the day began with the bride’s getting-ready session. And the excitement was written all over Donna’s face when she jumped on the bed with two of her bridesmaids with a bottle of champagne to strike a pose. What’s more fun for me as a wedding photographer than a fun-loving bride!

 

It was a pleasure photographing Donna in her gorgeous Ines Di Santo wedding dress and Cinderella-like sandals holding her white orchid’s bundled bridal bouquet. While Jon looked just as handsome in his classic white tuxedo, resembling the one that Leonardo DiCaprio often donned in The Great Gatsby. After all, the entire wedding was planned to strike a resemblance with The Great Gatsby theme. No wonder every detail was so meticulously thought out. Talking of details, I had a great time bringing the couple’s ideas and planning to life with detail shots. While photographing the wedding venue, I loved how the lei was placed on the chairs for the guests. Some other adorable details that caught my eye included the white orchid bouquets, the Under The Sky couple’s initial sign at the entrance of the venue, the invitation cards, the orchid-decorated wedding cake, and particularly a romantic letter from Jon to his bride-to-be Donna.

 

The couple had a lovely outdoor ceremony under a tree in the presence of their friends and family. The chemistry Donna and Jon shared was evident through the look in their eyes. And as they said “I do” and leaned in for a perfect kiss, the guest showered them with white flower petals, and the moment couldn’t have been any dreamier. Taking advantage of the beautiful beachfront backdrop, I stole the couple for a moment for some stellar couple’s portraits. The venue had a huge signboard that spelled ALOHA in white. So I asked Jon to give Donna a twirl and voila! With a water-side backdrop behind the signboard and the reflection of the couple in the swimming pool, the scene just appeared straight out of a movie.

 

If all of this gives you wedding ceremony goals, wait, the reception was a different affair altogether! First, Donna stole the night with her stunning look as she changed into a different yet equally luxurious white dress for the reception. And got Jon all smiley as she performed a traditional Hula dance for him. The couple kickstarted the party with their toast given in The Great Gatsby style, pouring champagne. And soon after the guest had dinner by the poolside, the dancing took over. The bride, the groom, the guests, everyone hit the dance floor with glow sticks and happily danced the night away!
